This standard specifies the construction, dimensions and test requirements that must be accomplished by medium voltage cables with rated voltage Uo/U (Umax) = 8,7/15(17,5) kV, 12/20(24) kV, 15/25 (31) kV, 18/30(36) kV and 20/34,5(37,95) kV to be used in distribution systems.
CONSTRUCTION
RH5Z1(2OL) Cable Construction
Similar to the RHZ1 Cables, the RH5Z1 range has cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, a halogen-free Polyolefin outer sheath, waterblocking tape over the conductor and longitudinal waterblocking measures (RH5Z1-OL & RH5Z1-2OL).
The specification differs (‘H5’) with an Aluminium tape applied just below the outer sheath, which provides the dual function of moisture blocking and protective screening.

RH5Z1 Cable Sheath Material
As is the case with the RHZ1 cables, the Polyolefin sheathing material on the RH5Z1-OL & RH5Z1-2OL cables is a Polyethylene compound (PO DMZ1) – naturally halogen free, but not ‘Low Smoke Zero Halogen‘. It is compliant with IEC 60754-1/2. Where required, it can also be produced to be flame retardant (using PO compound DMZ2) to IEC 60332-1-2 and compliant to CPR Euroclassification Eca (S) and also flame retardant and compliant with CPR Euroclassification Cca s1b, d2, a2 (AS).
